Porcelain Pangolin with Larvae

Regular price $72.00 Sale

The pangolin is a shy, harmless mammal and is sadly the most widely poached species in the world making it critically endangered. The pangolin is sought after primarily for its scales and their supposed medicinal properties although no such properties are backed by scientific evidence. Pangolin meat is also considered a prized delicacy.

I handmade this pangolin figurine out of porcelain clay. I also made two little larvae accessories fired with 22kt gold as larvae are among his favorite snacks! I fired the pangolin with its prominent scales embellished with 22kt gold. In fact, pangolins are referred to as “scaley anteaters” even though they are more closely related to bears, cats and dogs.

I made this piece to lend a little helping hand to the pangolin. Therefore, 10% of all the proceeds from this piece will go to support www.savepangolins.org to help protect this critically endangered species.

All porcelain sculptures are handmade by the artist in sunny San Diego. Because each figurine is sculpted by hand, not cast from a mold, slight variations make each pangolin a one-of-a-kind creation.  All ceramic figurines are packaged in a beautiful gift box, perfect for gift giving! Because each piece is made to order, please allow 1-2 weeks for delivery. I will keep you posted on the progress of your piece.
